Mr Duncan Summerton

Mr Summerton graduated from Leicester Medical School in 1987. During this time he gained a research degree in Anatomy and Embryology. He undertook his urological training in Southampton and Portsmouth after a broad experience in general surgery. He obtained Reconstructive Fellowships in the USA (Duke, and San Antonio) and at the Institute of Urology in London, with a further BAUS/AMS Fellowship in advanced andrological surgery, including prosthetics, penile cancer, and female to male transgender surgery, also at the Institute of Urology. He was appointed Consultant in 2001 in Portsmouth and moved to Leicester in 2005 to join the reconstructive urology team.

His special clinical interests are Reconstructive urology, in particular urethral reconstruction, surgical andrology and genital reconstructive surgery - including penile cancer, implant surgery and phalloplasty. He heads the East Midlands Penile cancer service (pop. 6.5 million), and is on the National Cancer Research Institute steering group for penile cancer.

He is an active member of the British Association of Urological Surgeons (BAUS) and was elected Honorary Secretary to the BAUS Section of Andrology. He is on the Council of the British Society of Sexual Medicine (BSSM), a Section Editor for European Urology Today Magazine and a member of the European Association of Urology (EAU).
